Beyond the Destination Tours

SW003 — California Deserts is one of BTD Tours' featured Western itinerary concepts.

A broad desert circuit linking Mojave landscapes, Joshua trees, oases, badlands, dunes, volcanic forms, salt basins, and Death Valley.

It is especially well suited to travelers interested in desert geology, scenic driving, photography, dark skies, short walks, and dramatic dryland contrasts.

Route themes may include:

  • Mojave National Preserve
  • Joshua Tree National Park
  • Anza-Borrego and Palm Springs
  • Death Valley National Park

This is a Journey Design starting point, not a fixed public departure. The final route can be shaped around travel dates, starting and ending city, available days, walking ability, accessibility or mobility needs, interests, lodging style, weather, road access, reservations, permits, and current operating conditions.

Published BTD pages may show different sample day counts as the route is refined. A requested number of days is therefore reviewed for feasibility rather than treated as an automatic promise.

Season and operating note: Late fall through early spring usually offers the most comfortable full-route conditions; extreme heat, flash flooding, wind, and road conditions are design essentials.

A guided-camping or camping-plus-selected-hotels version may also be considered. Camping changes the overnight logic, campground availability, setup flow, facilities, driving rhythm, and seasonal feasibility, so it is not assumed to be a night-for-night copy of the hotel-oriented route.
